Obituary for Anne C Himes

Anne Condrin ‘Oda’ Himes

Anne Condrin “Oda” Himes, 90, Hollidaysburg, passed away Wednesday, at Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg.
She was born in Altoona, the youngest daughter of Cleveland and Josephine (Dixon) Condrin. On Aug. 22, 1953, she married Ralph Francis Himes Jr., and he preceded her in death on April 8, 2016, after sharing over 62 years of marriage.
Surviving are a son, Ralph Francis Himes III (Donna) of Hollidaysburg; a daughter, Jennifer Himes Thomas (Seth) of Ijamsville, Md.; four cherished grandchildren: Joseph and Maddie Himes and Seth Aaron and Annie Thomas; and two great-grandchildren: Rally and Jada.
She was preceded in death by a son, Andrew Condrin Himes on June 1, 2015; two brothers: James and Paul Condrin; and a sister, Josephine “Obie” (Condrin) Berkaw. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Anne was a graduate of Altoona High School, and she attended Penn State University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in education. She taught elementary school until the birth of her first son and then devoted her life to being a mother to her three children. She supported her children and grandchildren in all of their endeavors and spent many hours at ski races, swim meets, football games and orchestra concerts.
She loved the outdoors and skiing. She especially loved spending time at the family’s house at Blue Knob and with her many friends on the mountain. She was a devout Catholic and was known as the “Bishop of Blue Knob” because she organized Sunday Mass for skiers at Blue Knob. When the weather turned warmer, she enjoyed golfing with her husband, “Himer.” She also loved animals and the family’s many pets over the years.
Anne volunteered for several local charities, including Meals on Wheels and Saint Vincent DePaul “Food for Families.” She also served as president of the Altoona Hospital’s Ladies Medical Auxiliary.
Friends will be received from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg.
