Obituary for George W. Burkett

George W. Burkett
Feb. 22, 1940 - March 19, 2017
George W. Burkett, 77, Myerstown, died Sunday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon, after a stroke.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Preston L. and Leota E. (Dick) Burkett. On Aug. 24, 1963, he married Deanna R. Maria at St. Therese Rectory.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters: Stephanie L Lockard (Steven C.) of Myerstown, and Shelly M. Baker of Altoona; three grandsons: Jordan K. Lockard of Allentown, Tyler D. Lockard of New York City, N.Y., and Matthew J. Baker of Altoona; five nephews; and a niece.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia M. Burkett; and by a brother, Preston L. “Buzz” Burkett Jr.
George was a 1958 graduate of Altoona Area High School, and he received a degree in gunsmithing from Colorado School of Trade. He served in the U.S. Army as a specialist four and received a Good Conduct Medal 1st class, M1 Rifle Expert and Sharpshooter Carbine citations. Hewas the owner of Burkett's Gun Shop, Altoona, and he was also a machinist at Huck-Jacobson.
He enjoyed Guns, hunting and military history, and he was a member of multiply gun clubs and the NRA.
There will be no visitation or service. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park.
