Obituary for George L. Wilfong II

George I. Wilfong II, 83, Altoona, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2018 surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born in Altoona, George I. Wilfong and Ruby B. (Good). In 1968, he married Ada Miranti who preceded him in death in 2004.

Surviving are a son, Dr. Tino Wilfong and his wife, Carla (Baker); a daughter, Melissa Boose and husband, Steve; four grandchildren: Harrison, Sydney, Natalie and Nicholas; two sisters: Carol Rupert and husband, Paul, and Alice James and husband, Bob; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

George graduated from Altoona High School in 1952 and was hired by The Pennsylvania Railroad. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and he toured the Mediterranean for two years while serving in active duty on the U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt Aircraft Carrier, from January 1957 to January 1959. He worked as a railroader for 44 years, and held various clerical and supervisory positions through PRR. Penn Central and finally Conrail, from where he retired from in 1996.

Hewas an avid collector all of his life, particularly of PRR and Studebaker memorabilia. He loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren and family. He loved dogs, particularly Reggie and later, Bambina, who served as his companion for 14 years. George was a supporter of Autism awareness and local organizations, such as public broadcasting, animal shelters and Shriners.

George was a family man, a loving father and grandfather, who was deeply loved and will be missed by all.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2018, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, Pastor John Collins officiating.
